UEFA GEARING UP FOR EXPANSION OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WITH FOUR ADDITIONAL GROUP-STAGE ROUNDS

UEFA is working on plans for an expansion of the Champions League, with the aim to transform the competition from 2024. It has a proposal for four extra group-stage rounds in addition to backup slots for elite clubs that fail to qualify for the league through domestic competitions.

Serena Williams announced that she would not play the semifinal match against top-ranked Ash Barty in an Australian Open tuneup tournament. She cited a right shoulder injury as the reason for her decision. Wimbledon organisers are looking ahead to having a reduced-capacity crowd at this year’s tournament, the All England Club stated in a recent announcement. Earlier, they announced that the tournament would go ahead this year with or without fans. It is considering three options, full capacity, reduced capacity, or no fans.

Plans for a new Formula 1 circuit in Rio de Janeiro have been abandoned due to environmental concerns. The project was to be constructed on a former army base but was criticised by environmentalists as it needed a patch of native forest to be cleared.

GOLF- FRENCH OPEN TO BE BACK AFTER COVID-19 POSTPONEMENT

The French Open, Continental Europe’s oldest national Open, will be back to the European Tour calendar once again after its postponement in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It will be held from 6-9 May at Le Golf National.
